So, I had a long night Friday which made me arrive at the game an hour late Saturday. Our standing house rule is that if you show up late then you take the score of whoever is doing the worst. So, when I got there the crew was just finishing hole 15. Guess what my score was??? There were some new guys playing so I started with an 11. After the game was finished I felt as good about my 12 finish as I possibly could.
Even playing only three holes will make my week feel better.
Looking forward to a full game next Saturday where we will be playing the Woodland
Disc Golf Course yet again and starting around 10:00 am.

Saturday again, and that means Disc Golf! Despite the 20 mph winds and the 40 mph gusts it felt good to be out there. We played at the Woodland Park course in Pinetop, man it feels good to be playing that course again. Greg was absent, but Jason, Fred and I were joined by Stewart, who I think has only been playing a few months but has a hell of a distance throw. Jason beat his score from last week by a stroke finishing at 4 under. The rest of us weren’t so lucky and all finished with 9 overs. Putting was greatly affected by the wind, everyone had a few shots that should have gone in, or were good approach shots that were taken wildly off course mid-flight.
The fence that was put up last week didn’t seem to have as much of an effect on throws this week. Hole 10 still has an odd feel on approach since the basket is less than a foot from the fence. Luckily we didn’t have anyone on the wrong side this week. Throwing from the launch pad on 11 is still unnerving knowing how often I’ve taken the left line, so far so good though, for the past two weeks I’ve managed to have decent shots to the right, and stayed in bounds the entire hole.
Well I added 6 strokes to my game compared to last week, but overall I’m happy with how I played. Hole 7 was my only birdie of the game, however it was a great one. I threw a Discraft Flash forehand and the flight was perfect, it went straight down the alley of trees curving right just at the end to land me in the fairway looking directly at the basket with no obstacles. The game overall saw a decent amount of good drives, putts and approach shots … just not necessarily all in a row. I also took two double boggies in the back nine which hurt my score the most. Of course, I’ll take a day on the course in high wind over not being on the course, anytime.

Yes, there is nothing better than getting out on the Disc Golf Course on a Saturday morning, and that’s exactly what we did this past Saturday. We finally got to play the Woodland Park course in Pinetop again, it always takes a while to dry out after the snow melts. What a game it was too! I shot a 3 over, Greg shot a 4 over and Jason shot a 3 under. Great scores all around considering the wind was a big factor, plus the fencing their putting up around the National Forest which changes a few holes. I had to take what was basically a Basketball shot on hole 10 because the basket is almost touching the new fence and I had to take a completely new line on Hole 11 as you can no longer go to the left unless you want to be over the fence and out of bounds for the entire hole. Hole 8 is effected a little by the fence, but not as much as 10 and 11. The basket just seems like it’s in a different place because of the fence.
A sure sign that spring is coming is baskets in the long position. If you haven’t played the Woodland course in a few weeks make sure you check for the basket position before you throw. Greg and I both ended up having great shots on hole 2, right up to where the basket should have been, if it hadn’t been moved.
Overall though, a great day for Disc Golf and I’m looking forward to some great games this summer.

Playing the Woodland Park course Saturday was a fantastic experience. I shot a 4 which is just great for that course. Jim beat me with a 3 and Jason finished at 3 under but I will let them tell you how their games went.
As for the course this is the first time I have had to play it since before winter and I realized just how much I missed the long drives. My arm was a bit sore after the 18 baskets but it felt good to have a bit of a hike in with the game. There was some disappointing news. They have placed a fence up along the east side of the course to divide the park from the National Forest. The fence has changed the OBO areas and created some claustrophobic sensations on some launch pads and with some baskets. It has changed the feeling of the course and made it play very different in many areas. Finishing my first play back with a 4 I will hold further judgment until I get a few more games in.
