The Woodland course is awesome this time of year. There are a few issues, we have had rain a lot recently so we have been playing the Show Low course but this weekend we figured we would chance the Woodland course. The only real problem is bugs and 7 foot tall sunflowers. These can get in the way and are a pain to lose your disc in. I was luck enough to finish with a 1 over which is my best score ever for this course.

Along the course we came across a few anomalies. Tell us what you think they are or how they happened. The Disc Gold Disc sticking in a tree was awesome. I wish I could say one of us threw this fantastic shot but nay, we are just amateurs.

More to come. We are still working towards that Show Low Disc Golf League.

We had a meeting with Stefan from the city of Show Low yesterday and we will be adopting the Show Low course as the official home course for the Disc Golf Association Of America.
We will be starting a league soon once we get the rest of the paperwork finished.
More to come soon.

Yeah, I missed golf again and I am feeling the loss today. Well, there is always this week and next to get out and catch up on the practice I have been missing out on.

I had my best game ever on the Pinetop course this weekend, I finished at par for the first time ever! Jason, Fred, Stuart and Joel made it out and it was a beautiful day. The wind was kicking up a bit when we started but overall it didn’t effect too many putts. I was harder to get drives into the air, the wind seemed to be pushing them down.
I had four birdies and four bogies to finish even, I think that might be the most birds I’ve had in one game and one of them was amasing. And here it is

Hole 16 on the Pinetop course! A high putt into the air came down at just the right angle and stuck right in the basket. After a great game this was a hell of a shot to make near the end of the game.

Stefan with the city parks are rec came by yesterday. He asked if we would be willing to start a disc golf league in Show Low. The course is in good condition but with a league the city would still be able to preform upgrades that they have been wanting to do since the courses inception.
How could we possibly say no to starting a disc golf league? Well, the number one thing is of course time. If the time permits we will be starting a disc golf league in Show Low which will meet two days a week to throw some plastic. If you are interested in signing up for this league please contact me at greg@dgaoa.com for details.

You know what’s a great feeling? Getting to play Disc Golf on a day you’d normally be at work. Today being Memorial Day, I was not at work and Jason and I managed to get out and play the Show Low Disc Golf course this morning. It was a bit windy and we were the only ones who made it out, but still a great game and a good time.
I finished with a 6 over par, Jason with a 7 over, a rare game when I beat him. Hole 6 was what made the difference I think though. Until then we were tied up at 3 over each. For those of you who don’t know hole 6 at the Show Low course, the basket is on the edge of a drop off at the bottom of which is Highway 260. This creates a wind tunnel when there’s a good amount of traffic that on a calm day can send a good putt awry. Jason had a great drive off the tee pad, on a calm day he would have sunk his putt for bird no problem, but with the wind the way it was today on top of the usual Hole 6 breeze from the traffic below, his putts were blown off course twice and he took a double boggie. My drive on hole 6 wasn’t nearly as nice, and it took me 2 shots to get up to putting distance. Then my par shot was blown off course and nearly put me farther away than I had been. Hole 6 sucked today.
The rest of the game saw great shots from both Jason and myself although my only bird of the game was hole 9. A great drive, exactly the line through the trees I wanted, and a momentary drop in the wind for a long putt for bird. Some good pars kept the scores close and made for an interesting game through the back 9.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “A windy game of Disc Golf is better than no Disc Golf at all.”

We played the Woodland course Saturday around 10am and it was an absolutely great game for all. I finished at 5 over and should have finished at 4 over but I seem to have this trouble with basket #18. I have never ever finished a freaking game on that damn course and not bogied basket 18. As usual I got a great first drive on 18 but couldn’t keep it going and ended up bogeying the basket.
If I have this right …
Jason finished with a 1 over
Joel 5 over
Jim 5 over
Greg 5 Over
Dude 5 Over
Overall it was a great game for all, the only complaint is that we need more beer next time. Maybe shots at basket 9
Images and sounds coming next week so stay tuned for updates.

Yes, there has been a bear in the yard the past couple of days. He arrived two days ago and has been hanging around the office. Well, last night I worked until about 5 a.m. the sun had risen above the horizon enough to make light visible outside. My office desk sits on a corner with a window in front and one to the side. My chair is about a foot from the side window. At this time there was a thump on my window. I turned to look and there was the bear’s paw with claws and all just on the other side of the glass. I have blinds on the window and they were down but still half way open and this allowed me to see enough of the paw to scare the crap out of me. Startled, I jumped back and then grabbed my camera. Before I was able to pull the blind up the bear was gone. Later in the day my wife got this picture of the bear after it was treed by our friend’s dog. G,

So, I had a long night Friday which made me arrive at the game an hour late Saturday. Our standing house rule is that if you show up late then you take the score of whoever is doing the worst. So, when I got there the crew was just finishing hole 15. Guess what my score was??? There were some new guys playing so I started with an 11. After the game was finished I felt as good about my 12 finish as I possibly could.
Even playing only three holes will make my week feel better.
Looking forward to a full game next Saturday where we will be playing the Woodland
Disc Golf Course yet again and starting around 10:00 am.
Good chains,
